Performing Arts Application

Please complete the application in full. If you do not have a website with audio samples, please send a audio cassette, compact disc, DVD to the Festival. Your tape, CD, DVD, or website must reflect the actual type of performance you plan on presenting at the Utah Arts Festival. All cassettes, CD’s and DVD’s must be clearly labeled. If you are not selected for the show, and want your tapes, CD’s or DVD’s returned, include a self-addressed stamped padded envelope with your application. The Festival is not responsible for loss or damage. Tapes, CD’s and/or DVD’s received may also be picked up at the Utah Arts Festival offices between July 10 and July 31, 2009 - after which they will be discarded or donated.

Selection Process

Performing artists will be selected by a peer jury comprised of musicians, music critics, and other professionals in the performing arts. Artists serving as jury members, and the groups with whom they perform, are invited prior to the jury to perform at the 2008 Utah Arts Festival. Jury selections will be based upon materials submitted with the application and on past performances both in Utah and at the Utah Arts Festival. The jury will look for professionalism, originality, creativity, and suitability of materials for the Utah Arts Festival.

Deadline

Completed applications and supporting materials must be received by the Utah Arts Festival no later than 5:00 P.M. on FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 2009. The Utah Arts Festival offices are located at 230 South 500 West, #120, Salt Lake City, Utah 84101. Notification of Jury decisions will be mailed by Friday, March 27, 2009.

Contracts

Accepted performing artists are required to sign a contract with the Utah Arts Festival Foundation, Inc., specifying, among other things, payments, requirements and liability. Contracts will be mailed by Friday, March 27, and must be returned no later than Friday, April 10. Tapes, CD’s and DVD’s of accepted performers become the property of the Festival and may be used for archival, publicity, and web site purposes before, during and after the Festival.

Fees

Payment to musicians is based on American Federation of Musicians Local 104 two hour casual scale. The Festival does not pay transportation or housing for local or regional artists.

No onsite payments will be made. All checks will be mailed by July 31, 2009.

Information packets detailing all production and setup information will be sent to accepted artists with their contract.
